How PackTotal Calculates Your Plastic Packaging Tax

PackTotal is an application developed to ease the way for companies to record and monitor the plastic they are importing or manufacturing. PackTotal keeps important data records of products and their packaging component parts and their individual weight.

When a company has exceeded the 10-tonne threshold set by HMRC they must register for PPT. PackTotal can help ease the burden of a company’s Plastic Packaging tax compliance by calculating the values to be submitted as required by HMRC Plastic Packaging Tax Reporting.

Using PackTotal to produce monthly tax returns is as easy as 1 – 2 – 3…

Step 1: Load your data

PackTotal needs your data in order to make accurate calculations of Plastic Packaging weight. It will need full details of the products you are importing or manufacturing and their component parts. This can be done manually using the user-friendly user interface or imported from excel spreadsheet format.

Enter here the components of all packaging level and all materials. In addition enter the products which are made up of one or more components.

From this data PackTotal will determine which components are exempt and which are liable for PPT.

Additional data entered here, whilst not essential for PPT, will be beneficial for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) due to take effect from 1st January 2023.
